Training Methodology

The GBNTC Technical Training Masterclass series offers the participant a ladder, climbing which increases one's knowledge from one course to the next. Each master class consists of short lectures, case studies, practical exercises, group discussions, knowledge sharing with industry peers and a real experience that is directly attached to the role and function the participant will serve in their respective organization. The educational tools utilized in developing these sessions are rooted in best practices; GBNTC will utilize actual CEO voice surveys, industry impact analyses and market observations. These sessions will challenge the participant, are practical and easy to understand and can be delivered in Arabic and English.

Program Outline

  • Environmental Pollution Control and Preventions Management Quality (5 days)

    Over the course of the twentieth century, growing recognition of the environmental and public health impacts associated with anthropogenic activities prompted the development and application of methods and technologies to reduce the effects of pollution. In this context, governments have adopted regulatory and other policy measures to minimize negative effects and ensure that environmental quality standards are achieved. The objective of this Masterclass is to provide an orientation to the methods that are applied to control and prevent environmental pollution. The participant upon completion of this Masterclass will be able to understand the pollution of air, water, oil & preventions, management quality, reporting of analytical results and principles followed for eliminating negative impacts on the quality of air, water and oil.

  • Gas Turbine Performance Calculations (5 days)

    The course is intended to upgrade the participants with the theoretical parts of the gas turbine performance. The course starts with the fundamentals of thermodynamics and the gas laws till reaching the methods of increasing performance and how can we can calculate the performance enhancement and the associated cost of unit energy.

  • Hazardous Chemicals (5 days)

    Hazardous chemicals includes any substance or chemical which is a "health hazard" or "physical hazard”. This Masterclass will introduce participants to hazardous chemicals and its effects on health. They will also learn to assess the risks of using these chemicals and how to handle and use these materials. Upon completion of this Masterclass the participants will be able to know the different chemical types and potential risk and effects of different types of chemicals in any plants and safe handling of hazardous, Dosages Quantity

  • Multi Stage Flash (MSF) Desalination Plant Technology (5 days)

    This process distills sea water by flashing a portion of the water into steam in multiple stages of what are essentially countercurrent heat exchangers. Multi-stage flash distillation plants produce about 60% of all desalinated water in the world. This Masterclass will focus on understanding and explaining the functions and operations of MSF components and systems, Such as: Evaporator, Brine Heater, Cleaning System, Ejector, Freshwater storage, Water Desalination Cycle and also help explain the boiler water treatment, steam supply and the use of safety devices while operation.

  • Plant Operator & Maintenance Responsibilities (5 days)

    This Masterclass will provide an in depth knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the plant operator. They will learn the procedures and protocols in details of handling the responsibilities and upon completion of the Masterclass the participants will be able to know and apply the operator and technician roles in and outside responsibilities and to tie workflow to schedule. They would easily diagnose errors and technical problems and determine proper solutions to it. And finally they will gain the ability to troubleshoot, test, repair and service technical equipment efficiently and effectively.

  • Plant Start-up, shutdown procedures & problems solving (5 days)

    This Masterclass will cover topics such as process plant startup approach, economic approach, plant commissioning requirements and responsibilities, etc. and also look into case studies and data analysis. Upon completion of this Masterclass the participants will be able to understand the right procedures to start/shutdown equipment or the whole plant & to avoid hazards and define abnormal conditions such as high liquid level, heat loss, handle abnormal conditions such as loss of power, control, air, shortage of man power and manage risks associated with startup & shutdown.

  • Steam Generator Performance Calculations (5 days)

    The continuous performance monitoring of steam generator is the key issue in the safe and efficient operation. Consequently, the calculation of the performance parameters is the target of this course. In fact, steam generator efficiency calculations is a crucial factor in monitoring fuel usage and cost of production of steam. In addition, understanding the factors affecting efficiency would motivate operators in reducing heat losses and maximizing profitability. The optimized operation will not only reduce cost but will also reduce emissions to the environment. Participants will be able to lay out the main components and details of boilers. Also to present the ASME standards in boiler efficiency calculations and be able to increase awareness on monitoring operation performance indices leading to more efficient operation.

  • Steam Turbine Performance Calculations (5 days)

    This course is devoted to illustrate how performance calculations is performed according to standards. Heat losses from steam turbine is also studied in an effort to minimize heat losses and maximize efficiency. Special emphasis on Power and desalination plant turbine heat rate as a case study. Error and statistics of measurements are also included for evaluation of performance calculations.
